Fishing

Rod, cast and reel, bait and lures, what bites where, and cooking your catch.

How to fish

  1. Put the Fishing Rod in your tool slots (Sister Maren's starter kit puts one there; Brakka the Smith also sells them).
  2. Face the water from any shore of Mirror Lake, or from the end of its pier.
  3. Press F and hold it to cast; the longer you hold, the farther it goes. A fish bites after 4 to 11 seconds at Fishing level 1; every level makes it 4% faster.
  4. When the float dips, press F (or click) to strike. You have 1.4 seconds.
  5. Now reel: hold F or the left mouse button to pull the fish in. The line tightens while you hold, so let go before it stays in the red, and let go when the fish runs, or the line snaps. When the bar is full, the fish is yours, weighed in kg.

Rings on the water mark a fish school. A cast into a school rolls that school's own catch; after a few fish it moves somewhere else.

Bait and lures

Double-click bait or a lure in the Satchel to put it on the rod. Each cast uses one bait, and a fish that likes that bait bites 2 times as often. A lure makes the rarer fish more likely and wears out after a number of catches. Make both at the Tackle Bench by the lake: worms come from Digging, flies and butterflies from Bug Catching.

What bites

Water Catch Fish level When Share
Lake Sunscale Perch 1 any time about 32%
Lake Reed Roach 1 any time about 17%
Lake Bronze Bream 2 any time about 13%
Lake Mudfin Carp 3 any time about 15%
Lake Silverbrook Trout 5 any time about 8%
Lake Glowgill Eel 7 night only about 6%
Lake Mudwhisker Catfish 8 night only about 3%
Lake Moonlit Koi 9 night only about 2%
Lake Soggy Old Boot 1 any time about 5%
Lake Mirror Pike 10 any time schools only

A fish above your Fishing level is harder to hook and fights harder. Some of the rarest only rise at night: the Vale has a day and night cycle.

Cooking

Cook at a campfire, like Old Pell's by the shore:

Smoked Trout 1× Silverbrook Trout, 1× Healroot 3
Glowgill Stew 1× Glowgill Eel, 2× Wild Berry, 1× Healroot 5

Old Pell has three quests for anglers: Patience and Perch, Supper by the Water and What Glows Beneath.
