Professions
There are 8 professions: Woodcutting, Mining, Herbalism, Smithing, Woodworking, Alchemy, Fishing, Cooking. Each goes from level 1 to 10, and higher nodes and recipes need a higher level.
Tools
Take the tool in hand (it goes in the weapon hand) to chop or mine: a Bronze Hatchet for trees, a Bronze Pickaxe for stone and ore. Herbs and berries are picked by hand. Brakka the Smith sells Bronze Hatchet (25 Sealscript), Bronze Pickaxe (25 Sealscript), Copper Ore (8 Sealscript), Iron Ore (16 Sealscript), Glass Vial (5 Sealscript), Tool Handle (12 Sealscript), Fishing Rod (40 Sealscript) and buys materials at 50% of their value.
Every forest tree and every rock in the world can be chopped or mined; they grow back after a while.

A good first chain is Brakka the Smith's two quests: Copper for the Forge (bring copper ore) and Your First Weapon (smelt bars at the forge, then shape a Copper Mace at the anvil).
